One of the things we need to test ourselves on as believers is whether or not we have lost the heart?
I had the honour of spending time with a missionary, years ago, that had been working in the missionary field in rural areas for many years.
She was a dedicated, passioate lady that understood the value of sacrfice to save souls. Compared to our average lifestyle she was pour, but compared to the richness of passion, I was poor! She told me a story I would never forget. As we were sitting next to her caravan she started explaining that God had a conversation with her. He asked her “Why she was in the missionary field?”. Like all of us, she was reserved to answer but came up with the most common answer. “To save souls”. God replied with a “No” she said. On and on she thought of answers that would satisfy God. One even more spiritual than the other. None would satisfy. At long last, she gave up the conversation which lasted what seemed to be weeks. As she sat down talking to Him one day He asked her the same question again, and because she had no answer she said: “You tell me”. He replied “There should be only one reason why anyone would leave everything to do the work of a missionary. Only one reason that will keep you passionate at work for the rest of your life ……..” “and …..” she said as she eagerly awaited the answer. He said :”Because you love me”. She looked at me with eyes old by age but filled with passion as she said :”That is why I am still here” She didn’t care if people supported the ministry, whether they people liked her, or even if she would be rewarded. Through years of ministry in the worst situations she was filled with a passion driven by a love streaming out of her life into the lives of people hungry for the message of life. a Person once said that Jesus was not held on the cross with nails, but with love. In the same way, this missionary was held in the field by Love for her Saviour.
Have you lost your heart? Has this become a mind game?
Or are you driven by a heart filled with love for your Saviour?
