One of the toughest topics to address with believers is obedience. Whether it is to God or Leaders, obedience is tough with a big T. Living like a believer means obeying promptly.
Hebrews 13:17 – Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
Slaves have to obey, just like children. If slaves don’t obey, they will get a beating. If children do not obey, they get a hiding (or I hope they do in your house). Just like the other discussions, it is true that we should understand that this obedience is a response. A response out of love and respect for your parents, because you know that they do everything for your benefit. When they give a instruction, it is for the good of the family and you. Many believers have been brought to obedience as slaves, not children. The difference is very subtle but the result is enormous. One, live with victory obeying. The other remain a slave, giving of himself to benefit the master.
Let’s just say. If you don’t obey, you can not live like a believer, because those who you are entrusted to, can not protect you. Neither can they serve you effectively.
Obedience is tough, but a necessity when you want to live like a believer.
Believe that they (God and your spiritual leaders) have your best interest at heart. If you don’t believe that about your leader, maybe you should restore the reationship.
