The Galatians, just like many believers today, attempted holiness (becoming like Christ) through works. This simply means that they, just like you and me, see where we are at fault and “attempt” to be “better”.
Galatians 3:1-9 – O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?
The new life you have received, was simply by hearing the Word and accepting it by faith. We got renewed and changed.
Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?
I know that you see many things wrong with yourself. Some people even see many things they would want to have. Don’t be bewitched! You can not have more fruit of the spirit (example : patience) through knowledge or vain attempts of mimicking it. You will only be changed by
1. HEARING THE WORD
2. ACCEPTING THAT WORK BY FAITH
Instead of attempting change, READ and live by the faith that you are changed.
